It was forty years ago today

I've loved The Beatles and their music since they first stood American popular culture on its ear, early in 1964. Along with countless others, I watched them on the Ed Sullivan Show that Sunday night in February.
It has been said that the music one hears as an adolescent is the music that leaves the most lasting impression, and that that music remains ever green in memory. If it's so, I'm grateful that The Beatles (and their contemporaries) were the soundtrack of my adolescent years ... I was twelve when they appeared on the Sullivan Show, and eighteen when they broke up in 1970. What a ride we all had!
I reckon that once The Beatles have got hold of you, they never let go. That's fine with me.
